BALTIMORE– The Notre Dame of Maryland's Women's Volleyball Team swept Goucher College in their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 3. During the match Emma Mueller hit a career milestone, dishing her 1,000th career assist.
The Gators started strong, using a 6-1 run including two kills from Ciarra Bockstie making the score 15-7. NDMU continued to pull away stretching the lead to eight points. Emily Gordon slammed down a kill off a set from Mueller, igniting the team in celebration as she became the 9th player in school history to record 1,000 career assists. Bockstie and Gordon closed out the set with a block, putting NDMU ahead 1-0 in the match.
NDMU remained in control early in the second set, winning nine of the first ten points to take a commanding lead. Myla Palmer began to heat up hammering down three-straight kills to push the lead to 14 points. The Gators remained in control, with one last kill by Bockstie closing out the second set.
In control of the match, the Gators showed off their depth, putting some younger players into the game. The team continued to execute at a high level, building an 11-3 lead. NDMU would close out the victory with a 9-1 run.
The Gators saw 10 players record a kill led by a career-high eight kills from Palmer. Shelbey Willson finished the match with a team-high 14 assists, and Paulina Hernandez posted 12 digs.
WHO'S NEXT?
The Gators will go back on the road, traveling to face Penn St. Mont Alto on Thursday, Sept. 5. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
