BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame of Maryland Women's Volleyball Team dropped a pair of matches to Susquehanna University on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Gators lost the opening game of the day by a score 3-1, before dropping the second match 3-2.
The Gators got off to a strong start in the opening set, using an 8-1 run to race out to an early 16-11 lead. NDMU held off a strong push by the Riverhawks with
Ciarra Bockstie hammering down the last two kills, securing the opening set victory. Susquehanna answered back, dominating the second rolling to a 25-9 victory. NDMU tried to get back on track in the third set, but found themselves trailing 13-10. The teams traded points until NDMU capitalized on three River Hawks hitting errors to tie the set at 18. The Gators could not capitalize, falling in the third set by a score of 25-20. Susquehanna controlled the fourth set, clinching the victory in the opening match.
In the first match of the day, NDMU was led offensively by Bockstie who finished the match with 10 kills, hitting .450.
Miasia Ferrer and
Emily Gordon each slammed down seven kills.
Emma Mueller led the Gators in assists with 16, finishing with a double-double by picking up 11 digs, while
Natalie Newton chipped in 12 assists.
Paulina Hernandez led the way defensively registering 22 digs.
Jade Stewart also made an impact defensively, picking up 17 digs.
The Gators went with a younger lineup in game two, giving some newcomers an opportunity to set up and they did not disappoint.
Myla Palmer and
Morgan Perzan each smashed down 15 kills. Mueller just barely missed out on a triple-double recording 23 assists, nine kills and nine digs. Newton finished with a double-double registering 16 assists and 12 digs.
Izzy Stewart anchored NDMU's defense posting a career-high 22 digs.
WHO'S NEXT
The Gators will continue their homestand, hosting Washington Adventist University. The match is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
