Baltimore, MD – Faith Jones sets pool record in College of Notre Dame of Maryland’s win over Hood College 62-59.
The Gators snuck past the Blazers by touching the wall first in the nine out of fourteen events. Faith Jones swept all of her individual events. The sophomore opened her afternoon by setting a pool record in the 40 yard freestyle with a time of 19.62. Jones is the first swimmer to ever break the twenty second mark in Notre Dame’s pool. Her second event, the 200 yard breaststroke, she finished with a time of 2:48.06. In her final individual event of the meet Jones picked up her third win in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:07.09.
Classmate Shannon Berry also secured three first place results for the Gators. Berry picked up the first points for the Gators in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:47.46. Several events later the sophomore swam the 200 yard butterfly in 2:36.75, a personal best. Berry’s final individual swim was the 100 yard freestyle, were she recorded a first place result with a time of 1:02.72.
Junior Melanie Moscoso-Meiller also had an impressive day with two first place finishes and a second place result. Moscoso-Meiller picked up victories in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. She turned in a time of 1:13.34 in the 100 and a 2:29.75 in the 200. Moscoso-Meiller’s win in the 200 yard backstroke gave the Gators their first lead of the afternoon, 40-39. The 500 yard freestyle allowed the junior to score second place points for Notre Dame, touching the wall in 6:13.50
Amber Lovejoy finished the afternoon with three third place finishes. The freshman set a season best time in the 200 yard freestyle, 2:33.47. Swimming the 40 yard freestyle for the first time this year Lovejoy turned in an impressive 24.32. In the 500 yard freestyle the freshman touched the wall in 6:56.50.
The Gators trailed the Blazers 55-59 going into the final event, the 160 yard freestyle relay. Notre Dame’s team of Lovejoy, Berry, Jones, Moscoso-Meiller swam uncontested and secured the win 62-59.
