Strong Second Half Play Not Enough To Down Knights

Box Score

Baltimore, MD – College of Notre Dame of Maryland comes up short against Neumann University, 74-47, in conference play on Thursday evening.

The Gators entered the contest looking to have a better showing against the Knights than in their previous meeting this season, a 92-45 loss. Notre Dame struggled from the field in the first half, which allowed Neumann to build a significant advantage.  Midway through regulation Neumann led 40-12.

The Gators saw five different players score in the final twenty minutes of regulation to outscore the Knights 35-34. India Scott (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) hit from beyond the arc for the first of her sixteen points in the half. Kelcy Bye (Parkton, MD/Hereford) came up with some key stops defensively, a steal and a block, just five minutes into play which allowed the Gators to reduce Neumann’s advantage.

Over the next fifteen minutes strong post play by the Gator forwards was also a key part of outscoring Neumann. Cory Santos (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) made several strong drives down the lane and converted the easy lay-ups to excite the Notre Dame crowd. The Gators would again fall to the Knights, but made significant improvements since the teams met back on January 13th.

Scott recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Santos finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Catherine Subrizi (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) netted nine points, three rebounds and two blocks. Bye added six points, a team high three blocks and two steals.

College of Notre Dame travels to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Centenary College on Saturday afternoon for a 2pm start time.
