Basketball Falls To Rosemont

Immaculata, PA – College of Notre Dame of Maryland basketball was upset by Rosemont College 86-68 in the first of three Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games this week.

Three Gators finished the game in double figures. India Scott (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) led all players with 22 points and three blocks. Kelcy Bye (Parkton, MD/Hereford) put up a season high 19 points and six rebounds. Senior Catherine Subrizi (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Gators and Ravens were well matched in the first eight minutes of play. Rosemont took a four point lead, but Cory Santos (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) cut the margin back down to two points with her first jumper of the game. Scott tied the game at 8-8 with 16:35 remaining in the half when she sunk the lay-up and picked up an and-one opportunity at the foul line. Notre Dame would take their first lead of the game a few minutes later on strong perimeter shooting. Rosemont regained the advantage and never relinquished it at the 11:53 mark.

The Gators remained with several points of the Ravens over the next six minutes and fifty-two seconds. Subrizi and Bye converted three different jumpers over that time span to pull Notre Dame within three points. Rosemont went on a 12-5 run to take a 40-27 advantage into halftime.

College of Notre Dame put up an impressive second half performance outshooting the Ravens 51.5% to 48.6% from the field. Bye netted her first three shots of the half to spark the Gators shooters. Over the next five and a half minutes four different players would score to cut the point margin back to 12 points with 9:22 remaining in regulation.

Notre Dame continued to battle until the final buzzer sounded which was evident with a Subrizi three-pointer with fifty-eight seconds on the clock and a Katie Murphy (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) jumper with under a half of minute remaining.

College of Notre Dame will take on Rosemont College in a week, but before than they will travel to CSAC opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College on Thursday evening.
