Basketball drops heartbreaker to Rosemont, 65-63

Imani Stokes picked up her ninth double-double (16 points and 13 rebounds) in a tough loss to Rosemont.

The Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team dropped its second contest to Rosemont College in ten days, with the Ravens picking up a 65-63 win over the Gators. Rosemont moves to 8-10 overall and ups its CSAC ledger to 4-8, while Notre Dame remains winless in 2012.

On January 18, Rosemont earned a 73-34 win over Notre Dame, which the Gators appeared to avenge in the opening half of today’s contest, with Imani Stokes and India Scott each scoring 8 first half points, with Sasha Vassel adding 7 to give the Gators a 29-27 halftime lead.  Alexandra Gravinese lead the Ravens with 10 first half points.

Both teams traded second half buckets to see the game tied four times in the second half. Notre Dame would hold a seven point lead and Rosemont had a nine point advantage. Gravinese tied the game at 63 with just 35 seconds on the clock, with teammate Ashley Montecchio making back to back free throws to end the game at 65-63 and give Rosemont the season sweep over Notre Dame in 2012.

Stokes (Fr., Baltimore/Polytechnic Institute) finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for her ninth double-double of her rookie campaign, while Scott (Gr., Baltimore/Polytechnic Institute) had a team-high 19 points and pulled down 13 boards and had 5 assists. Vassel (So., Palm Beach, Fla/William T. Dwyer) finished with 16 points, and also chipped in 5 assists.

Gravinese led Rosemont's scorers with 20 points, while Elizabeth Coyne added 16 and Montecchio added 13.

The Gators hit the road on Wednesday, February 1 for their second tilt with league power Gwynedd-Mercy College. Tip off is 7:00 p.m. in the Griffin Complex. On January 9, Gwynedd earned a 80-25 win over Notre Dame.
