Swimming edges Hollins & Emory and Henry to end the regular season 6-3

Notre Dame of Maryland edged Hollins, 68-53, and Emory and Henry, 85-26, in Roanoke, Va.

Roanoke, Va. –
The Notre Dame of Maryland University swim team edged two of their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponents to end their 2011-2012 regular season 6-3. The Gators topped host Hollins University 68-53 and Emory and Henry College 85-26 to conclude their first season as an ODAC member 2-1.

The Gators won the 200 Medley with the Relay team of Duffy, Jones, Berry, and Chen coming in at 2:08.96. Freshman Jessi Duffy (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) continued to shine for Notre Dame, winning all the events she swam on Saturday, with a 2:09.94 finish in the 200 free; a 59.13 in the 100 free; and a 5:44.43 in the 500 free.

Juniors Shannon Berry (Pasadena/Catholic) and Faith Jones (Glen Arm/Greater Grace Christian Academy) each won three individual events, with Berry winning the 100 back (1:07.62), 200 back (2:25.69), and 100 fly (1:08.42). Jones took the 100 breast (1:19.00), 50 free (26.78), and the 200 breast (2:53.69).
 
Senior Melanie Moscoso-Meiller (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Los Pinos) came in second in the 1000 free, with a time of 13:00.25, with freshman Annie Bassoford (Ridge/Great Mills) coming in at 16:40.19. Moscoso-Meiller also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:42.93 and placed third in the 100 breast (1:30.91).
  
Bridget Aker (Fr., Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) had a third place finish for the Gators, with a 2:39.90 in the 200 free. Classmate Kristine Chen (Indian Head/Henry E. Lackey) took second in the 200 fly (2:47.59) and third in the 100 fly (1:14.61).

The Gators will prepare for the ODAC Swimming Championship, which will be held in the Greensboro (N.C.) Aquatic Center February 10-12, 2012.
