Bel Air, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University softball team was dealt two Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) setbacks to Immaculata University Monday afternoon. The Mighty Macs took game one, 19-2, and game two, 12-2, both in five innings. IU improves their overall mark 13-15 and their league ledger to 8-4, while the Gators drop to 1-11 and 1-9.

The Mighty Macs used a 12-run first inning to put game one away, 19-2. Heather Lancellotti (Perry Hall) had two hits and an RBI, while the Gators got one hit each from Mindy Daugherty, Kirsten Smulovitz, Colleen McCauley, Whitney Nixon, and Lyndsay D’Intino in the opener.

Immaculata got on the scoreboard first in the second game, taking a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the first.  Notre Dame put up two runs in the bottom of the third when Daugherty (Hampstead/North Carroll) singled to left field and advanced to third on Smulovitz’s double. Daugherty was able to score on the throw from centerfield and Smulovitz (Fallston/Towson Catholic) moved to third and also crossed the plate when Cara Corsaro (Manchester/North Carroll) singled down the left field line.  Corsaro and Ashley Fallon (Baltimore/Kenwood) would be stranded when Whitney Nixon (Baltimore/Dundalk) popped up to second base to end the third, trailing 3-2.

Immaculata came back with a four-run fourth and five-run fifth to pick up the 12-2 win. Smulovitz finished game two with two hits and an RBI, while Fallon took the loss on the mound to move to 0-6 on the year.

The Gators continue CSAC play when they travel to Radnor, Pa. tomorrow, April 10, to face Cabrini College in a 3:00 doubleheader.
