Gators Claim 3-2 Victory Over Keystone

Box Score La Plume, Pa.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University and Keystone College swapped sets Friday night before the Gators took the deciding fifth set to claim a 3-2 Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup over the Giants.

Notre Dame opened the match with a  25-16 set win.  After the hosts took the second set 25-23, the Gators rebounded with a 25-18 third set victory which the hosts responded to and won set four 25-17.  In the deciding set, the teams battled to a 10-10 tie before back to back kills by senior Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) and a kill by freshman Jamie Reyes (Yorba Linda, Calif.) gave Notre Dame a 13-10 lead.  After the team's exchanged errors to move the score 14-12, Ortiz knocked a game winning kill to give the Gators the victory. 

Ortiz led the offense with 16 kills while freshman Ashley Pasker (Newark, N.J./University) added 15 and hit at a .565 clip.  Reyes finished the night with 40 assist.  She also tied Ortiz and freshman Taylor Manger (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) for the team's lead with three aces. 

Sophomore Cleaya Antes (Carson, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) paced the defense with 15 digs and Reyes chipped in with 14. Ortiz notched 10 to aid the effort.  

With the win, Notre Dame moves to 2-3 in the CSAC and a step closer to returning to the playoffs.  On Saturday, the Gators will return to action to take on Cedar Crest College and Centenary College for a CSAC tri-match.
