Notre Dame Claims Victory Over Cairn

Box Score Baltimore, Md -- Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team claimed their second Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over Cairn Wednesday night.  A tough offensive threat by the Gators helped them defeat the Highlanders 70-52, their highest total points scored in a game by the Gators in over four seasons.

Notre Dame was paced by freshman Zaria Comer (Leesburg, Va. /Tuscarora) who posted a team game high 20 points and was 10-14 from the floor with eight rebounds and three blocks.  Comer now has over 100 total rebounds this season with two games where she posted 20 or more points.  Freshman Allyson Whitacre (Jarrettsville, Md. /North Harford) added 12 points, shooting 4-4 from the free throw line, while adding a team high five steals with four rebounds.  Shelby Cochran (Wilmington, Del. /Hodgson Vo-Tech) was an impressive 3-3 from beyond the arc and totaled 11 points and five rebounds on the night.  The Gators had a notable rebounding night as every player on the floor posted two or more rebounds.

The Gators took control of the game early when Comer grabbed a missed jump shot and put back for an early two point lead.  With just over 11 minutes into the first half Notre Dame climbed to a 17 point lead over Cairn, but the Highlanders would fight back to cut the lead to within 6 at halftime, 34-28.

Two minutes into the second half, Cairn continued their offensive pressure as they got within two points of the Gators, but back to back three points by Naimani Staley (Sliver Spring, Md. /Blair) help the Gators pull away.  The Highlanders held on within 10 points of the Gators through the first 13 minutes of the second half, but four consecutive jumpers by Notre Dame would help them secure their largest lead of the night.

Notre Dame returns to action Saturday, January 17 when they host CSAC opponent Centenary College.
