Box Score La Plume, Pa. -- Keystone College scored just 1:29 into overtime to defeat Notre Dame of Maryland University in the Gators Colonial States Athletic Conference soccer opener.
After a scoreless first frame, senior
Savannah Ferrara (Sykesville, Md.) gave Notre Dame the lead when she scored on a direct kick from 25 yards out from the goal that was deflected into the net in the 52nd minute.
The hosts would finally tie the game back up in the 85th minute, kicking the ball over goalkeeper
Lilly Gordon's (Delta, Pa./Kennard-Dale) head, to send the game to overtime.
1:29 into the extra time, the Giants would knock the ball to the Notre Dame goal, hitting the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal to take the 2-1 overtime win.
On the game, Gordon notched a career-best nine saves. Ferrara led the team with five shots, while freshman
Meghan Conner (Huntingtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) added four.
The win ends the Gators winning streak that extended six games, and is the first loss of the season for the squad. Notre Dame defeated Wesley College on Tuesday and Trinity Washington University on Thursday to beat the school record for best start to a season. The team will look to regroup as they will host CSAC foe Gwynedd Mercy University Wednesday afternoon on Alumnae Field.
