Soccer Too Much For Valley Forge

Box Score Baltimore, Md.  --  The soccer team for Notre Dame of Maryland University proved to be too much for the University of Valley Forge, as the Gators ran away to a 12-0 victory in their home opener.   The 12 goals are the most scored in a game by the Gators since a 12-0 victory over Trinity Washington University in 2005.

Freshman Meghan Conner (Huntingtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) would notch five goals in the game, one away from the school record, and just the fifth time someone has achieved five or more goals in a game in school history.  She also notched an assist.

Freshman Lindsey Rehak (Baltimore, Md./Redeemer Classical Christian) would add three goals and four assists to the effort, while senior Lauren Santi (Accokeek, Md./Elizabeth Ann Seton) chipped in with two goals and an assist.  Senior Savannah Ferrara (Sykesville, Md.) and sophomore Alla Stepanov (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) also knocked in a goal each for the Gators.  Junior Cristina Barrios-Lopez (Glen Burnie, Md.) contributed a career high three assists.

The Gators would finish the game by out shooting the Patriots 54-1.

Santi would open the gates just seven minutes into the game, scoring on a pass from Barrios-Lopez.   Just under four minutes later, Conner knocked in her first goal of the day, with Barrios-Lopez assisting again.  Conner would repeat her feat almost five minutes later, this time scoring off a pass from Lindsey Rehak.

In the 20th minute, the duo would reverse roles, as Rehak scored from Conner this time.  Stepanov would continue the trend of scoring every five minutes, scoring her first career goal in the 25th minute off a Santi pass.

Notre Dame would then wait ten minutes before Santi again found the back of the net, with Rehak posting her second assist.  Soon after, Rehak chipped in a goal with an assist from Barrios-Lopez to move the score to 8-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Conner would score back-to-back goals on passes from Rehak to move the score to 10-0 in the 59th minute.  In the 73rd minute Rehak would seal her first career hat trick by scoring an unassisted goal.

Not much later, Ferrara would finish the Notre Dame scoring, scoring her first of the season from sophomore Raeden McCullough (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace Christian Academy).

With the win, the Gators move to 2-0, with two shutouts, and have also held a 110-4 shooting advantage.  Notre Dame will return to action on Tuesday as they will visit Gallaudet University.
