Box Score Immaculata, Pa. -- The Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team travelled to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Immaculata University in their second road game of the week. Despite being tied to start the fourth quarter, the Gators could not pull out the victory over the Mighty Macs as they fell, 64-54.
Notre Dame was led in scoring by freshman
Justine Mudiay (Baltimore, Md. / Cristo Rey Jesuit) would recorded 15 points for the second time this season. Mudiay went 6-for-10 from the free-throw line and had three assists and two steals. Sophomore
Zaria Comer (Leesburg, Va. / Tuscarora) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and a team high, 13 rebounds. Comer went 4-for-4 from the free throw-line and added one block in the effort. Sophomore
Stephanie Roche (Baltimore, Md. / Perry Hall) tallied 11 points for the Gators, adding four rebounds and two three-pointers. As a team, Notre Dame recorded a 67.9% free-throw percentage and had 40 rebounds.
Immaculata would jump out to an early four point lead, but back-to-back free-throws by Roche and
Justice Walrath (Severna Park, Md.) with 6:17 left in the first quarter would see Notre Dame down two. With 5:26 left in the first quarter, Immaculata would tally back-to-back baskets, now up by six, 10-4. On the opposite end, Comer would down her first two points of the game to cut the lead to four.
With 3:21 left in the first, a pair of free-throws by Comer would bring Notre Dame within two point of Immaculata, but on the opposite end, the Mighty Macs would add two points, again going up four. After a free-throw by
Ashley Guy (Leonardtown, Md.), Roche would down her first three-pointer, tying the game for the first time at 13 apiece. With seconds left in the first, Immaculata would down a pair of free-throws, going up 15-13 over the Gators.
Notre Dame quickly tied the game again off a layup by
Naimani Staley (Silver Spring, Md. / Brick) with just under a minute into the second quarter. After a pair of fouls by Immaculata,
Peyton Smith (Valley Lee, Md. / Great Mills) would find the basket, giving the Gators their first lead of the evening, 17-15. The lead would be short lived as Immaculata would down a three-pointer on the opposite end, going up by one.
With 7:28 left in the half, Mudiay would hit one of two free-throws, tying the game at 18. Over the next five minutes, Notre Dame would go on a 14-4 run, holding their largest lead of the night at 10 with 2:17 left in the first half. Immaculata would rally back scoring the last seven points of the first half, Gators up 32-29 going into halftime.
Through the first two minutes, neither team could find the basket until Mudiay downed a jumper from Roche. With 5:28 left in the third quarter, Immaculata would get within two off a free-throw, but again Mudiay would find the basket from Roche, Gators up four. On the opposite end, the Mighty Macs would put three on the board to again get within one, but Roche would answer right back with her second three-pointer of the night.
With a third straight three-pointer, the Mighty Macs would again get within one point of the Gators. Notre Dame and Immaculata would go scoreless over the next minute and a half until back-to-back baskets by Immaculata would regain the Mighty Mac lead, Gators down 44-41. A trio of free-throws by Notre Dame would see the score tied for the fourth time to close out the thrid quarter, 44 points apiece.
In the opening four and a half minutes, Notre Dame and Immaculata would again remain scoreless, the game still tied with just under seven minutes remaining. A pair of free-throws by the Mighty Macs would again see Immaculata a head and would spark a six point run.
The Gators would fight back, but a three-pointer by Immaculata with 3:30 left in the game would put the game out of reach for the Gators. In the fourth quarter, the Mighty Macs would outscore the Gators 20-10. With the loss, Notre Dame falls to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in CSAC play.
Next, Notre Dame travels to Summit, Monday, February 1, for their make up game from last weekend. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
