Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Clarks Summit University for their last home game of 2016. The Gators would gain an early lead over the Defenders and claim victory for their first conference win of the season, 64-45. In the win, four Gators recorded double-figures in scoring while every player contributed on the boards.
The Gators were led in scoring by junior
Ashley Guy who posted 17 points, tying a career-high. Guy went 3-for-4 from the free throw line and lead the team with five steals. Sophomore
Justine Mudiay had 14 points in the game, her second game this season with double-figures. Junior
Shelby Cochran posted 12 points, going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc with junior
Zaria Comer adding 10 points in the win. On the boards, junior
Dania Taylor paced Notre Dame with eight rebounds, tying a career-high, while also leading the team with four assists.
The Gators would open up the game scoring the first eight points. They would hold the Defenders scoreless through the first two minutes of play. Over the next minute of play, Clarks Summit would get within one of the Gators, 8-7 with just under seven minutes to play in the first quarter. With one minute left in the quarter, Notre Dame would hold their largest lead of the quarter with nine, 20-11.
Mudiay would post the first points of the second quarter for the Gators, but three consecutive three-pointers by the Defenders would see them within two points, with eight and a half minute remaining in the half, 22-20. For over five minutes of the second quarter, Notre Dame would hold Clarks Summit to just one point, outscoring them 13-1. To close out the half, the Gators would hold a 15-point lead, 38-23.
Notre Dame again would record the first points of the quarter, but a layup by Guy with just under six minutes in the third quarter would be the last points for the Gators until the final two minutes of the quarter. In the last three and a half minutes of the quarter, there would only be two points scored by both teams. Junior
Lindsey Webb, would record her first points of the season, assisted by junior
Daishawna McNeil.
In the fourth quarter, Notre Dame would hold their largest lead of the night, 58-34, with just under four and half minutes remaining in the game. The Defenders would surge back scoring 11 points in the final five minutes of play. Notre Dame would hold on to claim victory over Clarks Summit, 64-45 for their first conference win of the season.
Notre Dame will next travel to CSAC opponent Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
