Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- The Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team wrapped their 2015-16 season at home Saturday against Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Cabrini College. A deep bench by Cabrini outmatched Notre Dame as the Gators fell, 81-31.
The Gators were led by sophomore
Ashley Guy (Leonardtown, Md.) who recorded eight points, going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while leading the team in rebounds with six. Sophomore
Zaria Comer (Leesburg, Va. / Tuscarora) also tallied eight points while reeling in four rebounds. Freshman
Justice Walrath (Severna Park, Md.) finished the day with six points, going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, adding four rebounds while sophomore
Stephanie Roche (Baltimore, Md. / Perry Hall) led the Gators with three assists.
Notre Dame saw season highs this season, finishing the year in second for defensive rebounds (28.8 average per game) and sixth for bocks (2.88 average per game) in the CSAC. Before the winter break, the Gators broke into the NCAA top 25 for defensive rebounds with 32 average a game. Notre Dame posted more wins and saw higher field goal shooting and free-throw percentage in comparison to last season.
Comer finishes the season ranked second in block shots average (1.8), fourth in field goal percentage (0.475), seventh in rebounds (8.6 average per game), and eighth in scoring (12.5 average per game) in the CSAC while also being placed on the Honor Roll in November. Comer also posted eight double-doubles this season, with a total 17 for her career. Against Cairn, Comer broke the Notre Dame single-season block record and wrapped the year with 41.
Roche ends the season ranked ninth for three-pointers a game (1.7) in the CSAC. She saw a higher three-point shooting percentage and posted more points in comparison to her rookie season last year. Against Cairn, Roche tied a Notre Dame single-game record of made three-pointers with seven in total. Guy saw major improvements this season where she more than doubled her points from last season and finished the year with two double-doubles.
Standout freshman, Justice Walrath, finished the season ranked third in the CSAC for assists per game (3.5), ending the year with 84 in total.
Gator basketball will return to action November 2016.
