Gators Shut Down Falcons on #Play4JaylenAndJP Day

Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- The Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon on #Play4JaylenAndJP Day.  A strong team effort by the Gators concluded in a conference victory for Notre Dame, 64-37.

The Gators were led in scoring by sophomore Stephanie Roche (Baltimore, Md. / Perry Hall) who tallied 19 points, just one point shy of tying her career high.  Roche finished the evening with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals while going 75% from beyond the arc.  Freshman Justice Walrath (Severna Park, Md.) recorded eight assists, tying her career high while adding a team high, seven rebounds and five points.  Sophomores Meghan O'Connor (Oxford, Pa. / Oxford Area) and Jennifer Whiting (Perry Hall, Md.) tallied seven points each, with O'Connor posting six assist and Whiting adding six rebounds.  Sophomore Zaria Comer (Leesburg, Va. / Tuscarora) and freshman Peyton Smith (Valley Lee, Md. / Great Mills) posted six points each, while Smith went 3-for-3 from the floor.  Every player off the bench recorded points in the Gators victory.  Notre Dame had season highs in shooting percentage and assist with 43.9% and 21, respectively.

The Falcons took an early lead to open the game, downing a three-pointer in the first 30 seconds of the game.  A layup by Whiting assisted by Roche would cut the Cedar Crest lead to one with just over eight minutes in the first quarter.  After a missed jumper on the other end for the Falcons, the Gators took the lead off a layup by Ashley Guy (Leonardtown, Md.) assisted Walrath.

After a scoreless three minutes in the first quarter, Cedar Crest would regain the lead by one, Gators down, 4-5.  On the opposite end, Notre Dame would charge back with Justine Mudiay (Baltimore, Md. / Cristo Rey Jesuit) putting up a layup, assisted by Guy.  To close out the first quarter, Notre Dame would hold a three point lead, 16-13.

With eight minutes on the clock in the second quarter, Cedar Crest would again get within one point of Notre Dame, Gators up 16-15.  This would be the closest the Falcons would get to the Gators for the rest of the game.  Going into halftime, Notre Dame would lead 31-22.

In the second half, Notre Dame would outscore Cedar Crest 33-15, with the largest lead of 29 coming with just a minute and a half remaining in the game.  With the victory today, Notre Dame advances to 7-14 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

Next, the Gators hit the road for three straight contests, the first coming Wednesday against Rosemont.  Game time scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
