BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University soccer team improved to 1-0 tonight, following its 5-1 win over Gallaudet University at Alumnae Field.
Freshman Jessie Lindenkohl pushed the Gators out to an early lead, as the rookie netted Notre Dame's first goal of the season, following a corner kick just seven minutes into action. 20 minutes later, Lindenkohl scored her second goal of the game on sophomore Meghan Conner's cross.
With just five minutes left in the first half, goals by junior Elizabeth Balog and freshman Heather Barry gave the Gators a 4-0 lead.
Notre Dame created ample pressure with ten shots on goal in the second half but freshman Bison goalie Silvya Levesque held the Gators scoreless with ten straight saves, until finally, NDMU snuck one past the rookie keeper. That goal came in the 81st minute, as Conner found sophomore Lyndsay Rehak for her first goal of the season.
Gallaudet found life with a late 87th minute goal but the hill proved too steep to climb. Notre Dame outshot the Bison 26-1, as Levesque finished with a game high 21 saves.
Sophomore Lilly Gordon picked up the win in net for the Gators, allowing zero goals in 45 minutes of action. Gordon also added a pair of shots in the second half, including one on goal.
Lindenkohl led the Gators on offense with a pair of goals, while Balog, Barry and Rehak each added a goal apiece. Conner finished with a game high nine shots on goal to go along with a pair of helpers.
The Gators will make the short trip to Goucher (1-0) on Wednesday for match under the lights. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
