Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team secured a convincing victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent, Cedar Crest, Saturday. Today's win advances the Gators to 3-4 in conference play and 5-8 overall.
The Gators had four starters record double-figure in scoring led by junior
Dania Taylor who posted a career-high 21 points, adding a career-high made free-throws with eight. Taylor also led the team in assists and steals with eight and four, respectively, tying career-highs. Junior
Ashley Guy also had a career-game, recording a career-high 18 points, with all her points coming from the floor (9-for-11). Juniors
Stephanie Roche and
Zaria Comer both finished the game with 13 points, while Comer recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a tied team-high, 11 rebounds. Junior
Shelby Cochran also tallied 11 rebounds in the win and tied a career-high.
As a team, Notre Dame shot 50.8% from the floor, going 32-for-63, their highest shooting percentage and field-goals this season. The Gators also broke their single-game assist record this season that they set last week, finishing the game with 22. The victory today is also the team's highest win margin this season.
Notre Dame jumped out to an early 6-0 lead to open the game, but back-to-back three-pointers by the Falcons would tie the game at six all, with just over two-minute in the game. The Gators would surge to go on a 13-3 run, holding Cedar Crest to just five points in the last seven minute of the first quarter. Notre Dame would hold an eight-point lead going into the second quarter, 19-11.
Cedar Crest and Notre Dame would trade points through the second quarter, the Gators keeping their eight-point lead for a majority of the quarter. With a minute and a half left in the first half, the Gators would go on a seven-point run, to close out the half with a 14-point lead, 41-27.
In the third-quarter, Cedar Crest could not chip away at the Notre Dame lead. The Gators would not let the Falcons go on any runs in the third, closing the quarter with a 14-point lead, 63-49. This would be the closest Cedar Crest would get to Notre Dame for the remainder of the game.
Notre Dame would hold Cedar Crest to just five points in the fourth quarter, seeing their largest lead of the night with two minutes left in the game, 77-53. The Gators would claim a 77-54 victory over the Falcons for their third conference win of the season.
Notre Dame is currently in seventh place in the CSAC and will return to action Wednesday against the eighth seed, Immaculata University on the road.
