Box Score Immaculata, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team traveled to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Immaculata University for their first of two road games this week. A hard fought game for the Gators saw them climb back from a 13-point deficit to take a two-point lead, but late baskets by the Mighty Mac in the last two minutes would keep the game just out of reach as Notre Dame fell, 55-58.
The Gators had three players record double-figures led by junior
Zaria Comer who posted her third game this season with over 20 points, finishing the night with 21, going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Comer also posted her fifth double-double of the season, leading the Gators on the boards with 11 rebounds. Junior
Dania Taylor notched her first-career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and was three assists shy of a triple-double, finishing the game with seven. Junior
Shelby Cochran tied a career-high, scoring 13 points while junior
Stephanie Roche led the team in steals with three.
To open the first quarter, the Mighty Mac would hold the Gators scoreless over the first two minutes of the game before a layup by Taylor would put the team on the board, Notre Dame down, 2-7. After a trio of miss three-point attempts by Immaculata, Notre Dame would cut the lead to three off a layup by
Ashley Guy by Roche.
Over the next two minutes of play, Immaculata would again climb to a seven-point lead over Notre Dame, but with two minutes left in the first, the Gators would get within four points of the Might Macs. Immaculata would score the last four points of the quarter as Notre Dame would go into the second quarter down eight, 9-17.
Taylor would open up the second quarter with a three-pointer for the Gators. In the first two minutes, Notre Dame would outscore the Mighty Macs, 6-2 to get within three, 16-19. Over the next three minutes, Immaculata would climb to a 13-point lead, outscoring the Gators, 0-10. In the last five minute of the first half, Notre Dame would charge back. The Gators would hold the Mighty Mac scoreless until the final seconds of the half, Notre Dame going into halftime down seven, 24-31.
In the third quarter, Immaculata would hold the Gators to four points over the first five minutes and would again go up by 13, but again Notre Dame would rally back. In the last five minutes, Notre Dame would outscore Immaculata, 9-5. Both teams would record 15 points in the third, Notre Dame would into the final frame down by seven, 39-46.
Notre Dame would remain in control going into the fourth quarter. The Gators would keep the Mighty Mac scoreless in the first three minutes and tie the score at 46 apiece. After a layup by Immaculata, Notre Dame would get a quick four points off a three-pointer by Taylor and free-throw by Comer to take their first lead of the game, 50-48.
With five minutes left in the game, Immaculata would tie the game at 50 apiece, but the Gators would regain the lead off a layup by Cochran. The Mighty Mac would go on a 6-0 run over the next four minutes and with 10 seconds remaining would hold a three-point lead. Roche would make a last second attempt tie the game, but would fall just short. Notre Dame would fall to Immaculata, 55-58.
Notre Dame will travel to Centenary Saturday.
