Gators' 19 Points In First Quarter Not Enough to Outlast Pacers

Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Marywood University.  A strong first-quarter by the Gators was not enough to hold the Pacers off as they fell, 46-66.

The top-scorer for the Gators was junior Zaria Comer who posted 15 points, going 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.  Sophomore Justine Mudiay also recorded double-figures with 13, her first game in double-digits since earlier this month.  She went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and finished with five rebounds and a three-pointer.  Three Gators posted five rebounds in the loss, but junior Stephanie Roche led the team with seven, while junior Dania Taylor posted six assist and is averaging 5.9 over her last eight games.  Notre Dame shot 81.8% from the free-throw line, their third game this season posting over 80%.

The Gators would open the game with an eight-point deficit over the first three minutes, but would slowly chip away at the Marywood lead.  With four-minutes left in the first quarter, Notre Dame would go on a nine-point run and at the 2:30 minute mark would tie the game at 15 points apiece.  A three-pointer by Roche with just over a minute left would give the Gators their first lead of the game.  With time expiring to close out the first, Marywood would down a three-pointer to take a one-point lead, Notre Dame going into the second down, 19-20.

A run by Marywood in the second quarter, would see the Gators down by 16 with five-minutes left in the first half.  Despite outscoring the Pacers in the final five minutes in the second quarter, Notre Dame would not be able to recover as they fell by a final score of 46-66.

Notre Dame moves to 6-11 overall this season and 3-7 in conference play.  They will return to action on the road next week as they face Rosemont Wednesday and Clarks Summit Saturday.
