Gators Score Big Conference Win

Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Rosemont College Thursday night, for their only home game and second of three conference games this week.  The Gators jumped out to an early lead over the Ravens and didn't let up as they secured their second CSAC win, 79-61.

The Gators were led in scoring by sophomore Justine Mudiay who recorded a career-high 26 points, while tying a career-high made three pointers in a game, finishing with three.  Junior Shelby Cochran posted her first career double-double, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds, one rebounds shy of her career-high.  On the boards, junior Ashley Guy and Cochran led the team with 10 apiece while junior Stephanie Roche posted a season-high, 19 points, with three three-pointers.  Junior Dania Taylor led the Gator offense with a career-high, eight assists, adding 15 points, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. 

As a team, the Gators saw several season highs.  Notre Dame's 79 points is their highest recorded points this season.  The Gators also registered their highest shooting percentages of the season with 48.5% from the floor and 50.0% from the three.  The team tied the season-high assists with 17.

Notre Dame would make the first three baskets of the game, scoring seven in just over the first minute of play.  At the eight-minute mark, Rosemont would post their first points of the night, Notre Dame up, 7-2.  The Gator would hold the Ravens to two points over six minutes of the first quarter and with just over two minutes left in the first quarter, Notre Dame would hold a 20-4 lead off back-to-back three-pointer by Roche.  To close out the first quarter, Rosemont would go on a 7-4 run to close out the first quarter, Notre Dame leading, 24-11.

The Gators would come out scoring in the second quarter, taking a 15-point lead with just under a minute in the quarter.  After trading point through six minutes of play, a layup by Guy assisted by Taylor, would see the Gators up 20 with three and a half minutes left in the first half.  A short seven point run by Rosemont would cut the lead to 13, but Notre Dame would score the final three baskets of the half, going into halftime with an 18-point lead, 47-29.

To open the second half, Rosemont would start with possession.  After securing a rebound on the defensive end, Taylor would drain a three-pointer to see the Gators up 21, 50-29.  Rosemont would again string together points to cut the Notre Dame lead to 13 with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter.  Taylor and Mudiay would combine for nine points over a two-minute period to give the Gators their largest lead of the night at 23, Notre Dame up, 59-37.  To close out the third quarter, the Ravens and Gators would trade points, going into the fourth quarter, Gators with a 20-point lead, 68-48.

Rosemont would post the first baskets of the fourth quarter, scoring back-to-back three pointers.  At the nine-minute mark, the Ravens would cut the Gator lead to 14, but would not get any closer to Notre Dame.  Despite outscoring the Gators in the fourth quarter, 13-11, Notre Dame would close out the game, securing their fourth victory this season, 79-61.

Notre Dame will hit the road Saturday for a CSAC match up against Keystone College.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
