Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Neumann University Wednesday night. A high energy game saw the Gators come back from a 26-point fourth quarter deficit to get within seven of the Knights, but Notre Dame would fall, 77-84.
Four players recorded double-figures in scoring for the fifth time this season. Junior
Zaria Comer led the team with 22 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Comer shot 62.5% from the floor and posted a block. Sophomore
Justine Mudiay tallied 20 points for the Gators, her second game this season recording 20 or more points, adding eight rebounds and leading the team in steals, with four. Junior
Dania Taylor paced the offense with four assists and going 6-for-10 from the floor, finishing the night with 15 points. In her second game in a row recording double-figures, junior
Ashley Guy registered 12 points, going 5-for-9 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the foul line. As a team, Notre Dame recorded 33 field goals, their second highest performance this season.
Muiday would record the first points of the game off an assist by Taylor. After the Knights tied up the game on the opposite end, the Gators would go up three off a layup and free-throw opportunity from Guy. In the final six minutes of play, neither team would take more than a two-point lead, until the closing seconds when Neumann would use a three-pointer and layup to go up five to close out the frame, Gators down, 20-25. Notre Dame and Neumann would see eight tied scores in the first quarter.
To open the second quarter, Neumann would go on a 13-6 run and jump out to a 12-point lead through the first five minutes. The Gators would rally back and chip the Knight lead to four with just over two minutes left in the half off a three-pointer by junior
Stephanie Roche. In the final two minutes, Neumann would again go on a run, outscoring Notre Dame 2-8. The Gators would head into the half down 10, 38-48.
Gators would open the third quarter slow and within the first two minutes, Notre Dame would be faced with an 18-point deficit. Over the next four minutes of play, Notre Dame would go on a 10-2 run to get within 10 of Neumann. After a timeout by the Knights, they would close out the quarter going on a 4-10 run to jump back out to a 16-point lead, Notre Dame down, 52-68 going into the final frame.
Being held scoreless over the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, Notre Dame would be faced with the largest deficit of the night, down 26, 54-80. The Gators would remain resilient, this time, holding the Knights scoreless over the next three minutes, getting within 12 with just over three minutes to play in the game, 68-80.
With a minute left, a layup by Mudiay would see the Gators again within 10 of the Knights. After a trio of missed opportunities by Neumann, Roche would down her second three-pointer of the night to cut the lead to seven, but that is the closest the Gators would get. After coming back from a 26-point deficit, Notre Dame would fall, 77-84.
Notre Dame moves to 7-15 overall and 4-11 in conference play. They will host Keystone College, Saturday afternoon for their final game of the season.
