Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Immaculata University in their second meeting of the season. A high intensity game saw four tied scores and six lead changes, but the Gators could not push past the Mighty Macs as they fell, 54-60.
The Gators were led in scoring by junior
Stephanie Roche, who recorded 16 points off five three-pointers and a free-throw. Roche shot 62.5% from beyond the arc, her highest this season, while her 16-points were her second highest performance of the season. Roche and junior
Dania Taylor led the team in assists, with five apiece. Senior
Zaria Comer and sophomore
Justine Mudiay both tallied double-figures in scoring with Comer finishing with 12 and Mudiay with 11. Comer finished the game with a block, tying the Notre Dame record for blocks in a season, that she set last season. Junior
Ashley Guy led the Gators on the boards, posting eight rebounds, while the team finished with 30. The Gators shot 87.5% from the free-throw line, only missing one.
Notre Dame and Immaculata would open the game trading points, but with over two minutes into the first, the Gators would post their first lead of the night off jumpers by Guy and Comer, 6-5. Over the next four minutes, the Mighty Macs would go on a run, holding a six-point lead over the Gators, 8-14. The Gators would charge back with back-to-back baskets by Comer and Roche's first three-pointer of the game, Notre Dame down one, 13-14. The Mighty Macs would down two free-throws to close out the first quarter, going into the second, 13-16.
Immaculata would be the first to score in the second, but after trading points, a three-pointer by Mudiay would see the Gators up one with over eight minutes left in the half. Over the next four minutes, Notre Dame would lose their lead, then regain the lead off a layup by Guy from Roche. The Mighty Mac would score the final four points of the second, going into half, Notre Dame down three, 24-27. Both team would record 11 points in the second quarter.
Right out of the gate, Taylor would down a three-pointer to tie the game at 27 apiece in the first minute of the third quarter. After a pair of free-throws by the Mighty Macs, the Gators would tie the game again off a layup by Comer from Roche. Notre Dame would have trouble stringing together points in the final five minutes of the quarter as Immaculata would outscore the Gators, 6-15 to take an 11-point lead going into the fourth, 35-46.
Notre Dame would not back down in the fourth-quarter. After scoring the first points of the frame, the Gators would let the Mighty Macs reach their largest lead of the game, Notre Dame down, 37-48. Over the next four-minutes the Gators would hold the Mighty Macs scoreless to get within two-points of Immaculata. With time running out, the Gators would be within three-points with under a minute remaining. To stop the clock, Notre Dame would foul, but six free-throws in the final minute would keep the game out of reach as they fell, 54-60.
Notre Dame has three games remaining this season and will travel to Cairn, Saturday for their final road game of the season.
