ROSEMONT, Pa. – Today, the Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the 2019-20 Basketball Preseason Poll. The Gators were selected third in the CSAC, their highest preseason selection since joining the conference. Last season, they were selected seventh in the preseason poll, their highest selection prior to the 2019-20 season.
In 2018-19, Notre Dame had a record-year making it to the CSAC postseason for the first time in program history. The Gators finished 13-13 overall and 10-6 in CSAC play, earning a home court first round, hosting Wilson College. They eventually fell to the Phoenix, 37-47.
At the conclusion of the season, three student-athlete were named All-Conference, the first time in program history. Now sophomore
Daija Fitchett, in her rookie season, was named to the Second Team All-CSAC. It was the highest honor in program history for the Gators. Fitchett surged in the back half of the season, becoming a dominate threat for the Gators. In her first 14 games she only averaged 4.3 points per game, but in her last 11 averaged 12.4 points per game and posted four double-doubles.
Now junior
Adrianna Fletcher also earned postseason honors, being named to the CSAC Honorable Mention Team. Fletcher led the team last season in points per game, averaging 9.4. She also led the team in made three-pointers (53) and is was ranked sixth in the conference for three-pointers per game (2.1).
In 2019-20 the Gators will be led by Interim Head Coach, Kalin Wynn. Wynn served as an assistant coach for the past two season and was named Interim yesterday after previous Head Coach, Tom Gizzi resigned after three seasons with the team. Assistant Coach, Candice Henricks also remains on the coaching staff, while the program will add recent graduate, Zaria Comer to the staff.
Notre Dame returns core members of their starting five and have a wealth of underclass women to step in for the loss of two tenured seniors. Official rosters will be released mid-week prior to their season start on November 8 at Morgan States University.
