Gators Women's Lacrosse Brings Home 12, 2021 All-CSAC Awards

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) awards season begins with the announcements for women's lacrosse. The Gators student-athletes, as well as head coach, Kari-Lei Berry, were well represented in their undefeated season where the reigning CSAC Champions will seek a second straight title, and the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament that comes with it.

NDMU claimed 12 total awards, including three of the five major conference awards.

Player of the Year: Payton Gormley, Bryn Athyn
  • T-1 in CSAC in goals (23). 3rd in assists (9). 2nd in points (32). T-1 for most points in a game (10 vs. Cedar Crest).
Defensive Player of the Year: Michaela Seay, Notre Dame (MD)
  • Senior leader on the Gators defense that makes scoring opportunities tough with only 10 shots on goal allowed per game. Leads the Gators defenders in ground balls, obtaining possession for the offense (9).
Rookie of the Year: Sara Morales, Notre Dame (MD)
  • 2nd in the CSAC in goals (22). 1st in assists (15). 1st in points (37). 1st in draw controls (47). T-3 in caused turnovers (15).
Coach of the Year: Kari-Lei Berry, Notre Dame (MD)
  • Led the Gators to a 5-0 record and the top seed in the CSAC Tournament. The Gators 92 goals on the season are 31 more than the next CSAC team (61, Wilson College). Won games by an average margin of 14.6 goals.
3-D Award: Wilson College
  • Awarded to the team that best demonstrates the Division III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate".
The Gators led the conference with five players named to the All-CSAC First Team, and eight players combined on All-CSAC First and Second Team's.

  • Two hat tricks on the season. Scored at least two goals in all five games this season. Is fourth on the Gators in goals, finding the back of the net 12 times.

  • Crisp passing around the fan sets up many scoring chances on the Gators high powered offense. At least two goals in each of game, wrapping up the regular season with a seven goal outburst vs. Cedar Crest.

Against Bryn Athyn, shutout Player of the Year, Payton Gormley, earning CSAC Defensive Player of the Week. Salas is seventh in the nation in save percentage, and second in the nation in save percentage among those that have played at least 240 minutes (63.5%)

  • Earned CSAC player of the week after a hat trick against Bryn Athyn. 11 goals makes her one of five Gators with double-digit goals on the season.

Congratulations to all of the student-athletes who earned recognition.  Bravely representing their schools in a positive fashion with the Coronavirus Pandemic robbing them of a 2020 season, and still at the forefront during competition, more than a year later.

The CSAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament starts Thursday with two semi-final games, both set to start at 4:00pm. Top seeded Notre Dame of Maryland will host the fourth seed, Centenary, at Alumnae Field. Second and third seeds, Wilson and Keystone respectively, will meet in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, for a chance at making the finals.
