Centenary Hands Notre Dame 3-1 Defeat

BALTIMORE, MD - College of Notre Dame couldn't mount a rally after going down two sets to none, falling 3-1 (9-25, 21-25, 25-22, 18-25) at home to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied at 3-3 early in the first set, Centenary (6-9 overall, 2-0 CSAC) went on a 15-3 run en route to a 25-9 first set win. The Cyclones momentum carried them through the second set, as the visitors jumped out to a 20-12 advantage and held on for the 25-21 second set win.

Notre Dame responded in the third set, breaking open a 15-14 lead to 22-17 gap and eventually taking the set 25-22, which was finished off by a kill from junior setter Christina Kudrna (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll).

Centenary got off to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set before Notre Dame closed the gap to 14-11. However, the Cyclones slowly built their lead larger and were able to finish the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Junior outside hitter Catherine Subrizi (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) led all players with 17 kills and added eight digs. Junior India Scott (Baltimore/Baltimore Poly) reached ten kills for the match and added five digs. Kudrna finished the match with 31 assists.

Jalena Markovic led Centenary with team-high's of nine kills, eight service aces and 17 assists in the win. Kelsey Walter had 12 digs while Devon Paffendorf tallied eight kills.

The Gators gave away points in the match with 19 reception errors in the and 12 service errors. The Gators hit for a .067 hitting percentage (35k-28e-104 att.) while the Cyclones hit for a collective .232 percentage (38k-15e-98 att.).

Notre Dame (3-8 overall, 0-3 CSAC) travel to local rival Goucher on Tuesday evening. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
