Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Notre Dame Gators battled Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Cabrini University on Thursday night. It was a primetime matchup of two conference powerhouses. The match was held in front of a packed house at the MBK Sports Complex. Before the start of their final home contest of 2017, they honored their five seniors:
Zaria Comer,
Ashley Guy,
Grace Park,
Bobbi McDowell, and
Jamie Reyes.
In a back and forth first set, both sides possessed the lead multiple. With Notre Dame up 23-20, the Cavaliers went on a five-point streak and took the first set 25-23.
Cabrini started the second set where they left off taking the first four of five points. The Gators jumped right back in, evening it up at seven. The Cavaliers took another big lead at 21-11 and the Gators came within six to tie but ultimately fell 25-17.
Down 2-0 to the Cavs, the Gators found momentum to help take game three. Neither team could gather more than a two-point lead until the Gators pulled away for the 25-21 set three victory.
With the crowd back in the game the Gators looked to take another set from the Cavaliers. Unfortunately, Cabrini took a 16-5 lead to open the set. Though the Gators fought tough, the Cavs picked up steam and took set four 25-12.
Sophomore
Kayleigh Davis and freshmen
Sarah Sweet and
Michaila Sheedy led the team at the net combining for 34 kills. Sheedy hit for an impressive, .258 and continues to lead the conference in hitting percentage this season. The Gators had a standout defensive effort in the match with five players tallying double-figure digs, led by sophomore
Mary Marquez with 23. The team finished with seven blocks, led by Sheedy with four. Sweet continued her stellar season from the service line picking up four aces in the match. She remains sixth in the nation in aces.
Notre Dame will head into their final game at Trinity (DC). The team will head to Marywood University on Tuesday, October 31
st for the first round of the CSAC playoffs.
