Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University volleyball team traveled to Cabrini University in the second round of the Colonial States Athletics Conference playoffs. Notre Dame got off to a slow start in the match and eventually fell to the Cavaliers, 3-0.
The Gators were held to single digits in the first two sets, but played even with Cabrini in the third. After an attack error by the Cavaliers, freshman
Sarah Sweet went back to the service line, the Gators down, 24-20. Sweet posted back-to-back-to-back service aces to get within one of Cabrini, 24-23 to hold matchpoint. A setting error by the Cavaliers saw the game tied at 24 apiece. Cabrini recorded back-to-back kills to take the final set, 26-24.
At the net Sweet paced the team with eight kills and three service aces. Freshman
Michaila Sheedy and sophomore
Kayleigh Davis combined for eight kills, while senior setter
Jamie Reyes added two kills with 17 assists. On the defensive end, Davis led the team with 14 digs, with sophomore
Mary Marquez adding 11. The team finished the match with 46 digs.
With today's loss the Gators' season comes to a close. The team had many both team and individual highlights. The team went 12-2 at home and their 15-2 start was the best start in program history. In the CSAC, Sweet is ranked first in service aces per set and is second in kills per set. She was named to the First Team All-CSAC in her rookie season. Sheedy finishes her first season ranked first in the CSAC in hitting percentage at .305. Notre Dame has four players ranked in the top 10 in the CSAC for aces per set: Sweet (1), Reyes (3), senior
Grace Park (5), and Marquez (10). In the nation, Sweet is ranked fifth and Reyes is sixth for aces per set. As a team the Gators are ranked first in the nation for aces per set.
The Gators graduate five seniors, but will return core members of their starting lineup next season.
