Baltimore, Md. – Our final "Meet the Team" segment for the fall 2020 season, will be the volleyball team. Be sure to follow us on Instagram to stay updated, and meet our final fall sports team.
Last season, the Gators ended 25-4 overall, winning the second straight CSAC Championship, and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The Gators traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to face the #1 seeded Emory University, but unfortunately fell to the Eagles.
Six Gators earned CSAC recognitions, including two major awards. For the second year in a row, then sophomore
Alyssa Kerns earned a top honor, being named the 2019 CSAC Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-CSAC. For the 2018 season, Kerns was named CSAC Rookie of the Year. Then freshman
Ivanella Figueroa also earned a top honor for the Gators, being named the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-CSAC. In addition to Kerns and Figueroa being named to the First Team All-CSAC, the Gators had two other First Team selections. Then junior
Michaila Sheedy was named to the First Team All-CSAC, as well as then senior
Sara Few. Lastly, the Gators had two players who earned Second Team All-CSA; both then seniors,
Kayleigh Davis and
Mary Marquez.
In addition to the player's honors, for the first time since 2016, the Notre Dame volleyball program was selected the 2019 3-D Award recipient. The 3-D award is voted on by the student-athletes across the conference and recognizes the team in each sport that demonstrates the NCAA Division III philosophy of "discover, develop, and dedicate."
The Gators are led by head coach Henry DeTitta who is in his fourteenth year at NDMU. DeTitta states how, "winning the conference 3-D award has been just as rewarding as winning the conference championships!"
