Hernanez Named Defensive POTY; Gators Place Five on All-Conference Teams

LATHAM, N.Y.- The United East announced its 2023 women's volleyball major award winners and all-conference team for the Skye Division on Tuesday, Nov. 16 with Gators multiple accolades. Paulina Hernandez was named United East Skye Division Defensive Player of the Year honors. Miasia Ferrer and Hernandez earned First Team All-Conference honors while Ciarra Bockstie collected Second Team All-Conference honors. Finally, Jade Stewart and Natalie Newton were both named to the All-Conference Third Team.  

Hernandez had a phenomenal season leading the Gators Defense. Hernandez finished third in the United East in Total Digs with 469 whiles being ranked second in Digs per Set with 5.15 and leading the United East in Total Service Aces with 26 during league play. Nationally, Hernandez ranks in the Top 75 in all of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball with Service Aces (24th; 67), Aces per Set (30th; 0.71), Digs per Set (54th; 5.15), and Total Digs (75th). 

Ferrer had her best season at NDMU, becoming one of the best hitters in the conference. She racked up 259 kills, averaging 2.85 kills per set, the fifth most in the conference. Ferrer also made a major impact at the net, recording 27 total blocks.  

Bockstie was one of the most efficient players in the conference registering 187 kills while hitting .286 on the season. She ranked fourth in the conference in hitting percentage. Bockstie was one of the best blockers in the league recording 59 blocks, averaging 0.68 blocks per set.  

Stewart proved to be one of the most diverse players in the league, shining on both ends of the floor. She racked up 132 kills this season and added 29 service aces. Defensively, Stewart recorded 311 digs, averaging 3.38 digs per set.  

Newton had an outstanding season as one of the team's top setters. She racked up 426 assists this season, averaging 4.53 assists per set. In addition, Newton totaled 42 kills and 40 service aces. Defensively, Newton recorded 205 digs.
