LATHAM, N.Y.- The United East released its weekly awards on Monday, Sept. 11, with Notre Dame of Maryland University's Hector Alvarez and Paulina Hernandez each honored by the league for their outstanding play this past week.
 
Alvarez became the first men's soccer player to earn a weekly conference award, being named Offensive Player of the Week. He earned the award by posting a historic performance in the men's soccer program's first-ever victory, defeating Gallaudet 11-0. Alvarez scored four goals and dished out three assists, finishing the game with 11 points. In the process, he became the first player in program history to record a hat trick.
 
Hernandez earned women's volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors after a standout week. She averaged 23.6 digs per game, including a standout performance against Penn St. York. In that match, Hernandez posted 37 digs, the sixth most in a single match in school history. 
 
Men's soccer will be back in action when they travel to face Penn St. Berks on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Women's volleyball will host Hood College in their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
