A member of the field hockey and lacrosse teams, she earned her degree in Perfoming Arts.  Upon graduation, she continued her education by attaining a Masters of Education from Loyola College (now Loyola University).

Beginning her career at Maryvale Preparatory School, she served as the Athletic Director as well as spending time leading the field hockey, basketball and lacrosse teams at the school.

She would then move on to Loyola, serving as head field hockey coach for three years, head women's basketball coach for five years, and head women's lacrosse coach for ten.  During her tenure as lacrosse coach, she led the program to a 103-43-3 record, and two NCAA Division I Championships, the first Loyola teams to ever reach the Championships.  In her five years with the basketball team, they would post four winning seasons.

Through her work as an assistant athletic director, including taking over administrative duties of the intramural program, club sports and lifetime sport programs, the role of women athletic opportunities would rise.  McCloskey would open up intramurals to women, and even incorporated the first coed events in Loyola school history.   In 1990, she would be appointed the first-ever Recreational Sports Director.

Her contribution to women sports can be felt throughout the Baltimore area, as she is also a member of the Maryvale Athletic Hall of Fame, the Loyola Athletic Hall of Fame and is a member of th Baltimore Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
