Tim Engle became the second head coach and the second man to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Coming to Notre Dame in 1989, Engle took over a team in need of stability, taking control of a program that saw five coaches in the nine seasons before his arrival.  Through his effort, Notre Dame became one of the top programs in the conference, winning their first Atlantic Women's College Conference championship in the 1995-96 season, and ended his time at Notre Dame with four straight from 1996-1999.

Beginning in the1992-93 season, his teams either finished the season with winning records or AWCC championships.  His 1993-94 squad set school history with a 17-5 season record, which is still the most successful season to date.  His ten years at Notre Dame mark the longest tenure of basketball coaches, while his 110 wins is the most in Notre Dame basketball history and his overall win percentage is second best.
